Ellis White’s democratic approach to performing is in full effect during his live shows, where he shines the spotlight on the other talent on stage with him. This energy is on display via prominent lead lines, solos and tandem melodies with other players. Some songs begin with the rhythm section jamming prior to the sax or Ellis’s guitar coming in for a few solo bars before the trumpet begins doubling with one of them and the rest of the band kicks in. The variety and unexpected surprises are part of the fun and appeal.

Some of the cover tunes that go over well with audiences include Rick Braun & Richard Elliot’s “Q It Up”, Ronnie Laws’ “Always There”, George Duke’s “It’s On” and Michael Jackson’s “Shake Your Body”.

International Billboard Recording Artist, Ellis White, offers Contemporary Jazz & Blues performances focusing on original compositions while blending in top genre cover arrangements. He performs for festivals, jazz venues, municipal events and private functions. His sound incorporates diverse music backgrounds incorporating flavors of Smooth Jazz, Blues, Latin, Funk and R&B which comes through in his music featuring multiple lead instruments as opposed to a singular focus. Two-time Emmy Award-winning bassist, composer, producer, and son of legendary Bay Area keyboardist, Merl Saunders, “Tony Saunders Hall of Fame Induction at Academia Gala 2024” – Tony Saunders’s life has been infused with one musical adventure after another. As an arranger, producer, composer, and performer, Saunders has conquered the worlds of jazz, gospel, R&B, pop, rock, and world music. He earned the first of his two Emmys at age 14 for collaborating with his dad on the PBS documentary Soul Is and by 17 was playing with Merl and Jerry Garcia on their collaborative projects. The second was earned for his contribution on the TV show, Digital Journey, in the episode, “China: Their New Digital Economy.” Though he took one of his first musical lessons on piano from Herbie Hancock, the bass he received from John Fogerty’s brother Tom – and watching recording sessions with famed bassists Anthony Davis and Lee Miles – sparked a lifelong passion for that instrument that now, 50 years later, has led to his emergence as a major independent force in contemporary jazz.

Saunders graduated from the prestigious Conservatory of Music in San Francisco as a piano player but has focused on the bass throughout his career, drawing on influences and encouragement of greats like James Jamerson and Stanley Clarke. After launching his career with his dad Merl and Jerry Garcia, Saunders embarked on a diverse career that has found him playing and recording with a virtual who’s who of popular music and jazz – including Eric Clapton, David Crosby, Dave Liebman, Les McCann, Dr. John, Joe Sample, Chaka Khan, Ringo Star, Bo Diddley, Mavis Staples, John Lee Hooker, The Hawkins Family, Jeff Lorber, and Paul Jackson Jr. Over the years, Tony has scored films, corporate videos, TV shows, and commercials, and produced many artists out of his own studio, Studio 1281. He’s written the music and been musical director for stage musicals, including Rock Justice, which was co-written by Jefferson Starship’s Marty Balin.

An eclectic, soulful sound experience

About MeloDious

MeloDious is a band of siblings based out of Oakland, CA.   Established June in 2016, their passion for music was uncovered, when they performed on stage for the first time as a band.  From that point on, it was “official,” and they knew the only way to go was up.

The band’s vast repertoire of music spanning gospel, jazz, R&B and soul has been nurtured and developed from early childhood.  Born into a life of music and singing at church, their earliest memories were being sung to by their parents, listening to everything from Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Sade and Nina Simone to hymns and gospel music.  Growing up in a home where each day is filled with dancing, singing and the ability to be creative in their talents has greatly influenced their artistry.

“We’ve learned to be inspired by everything.  Our greatest inspiration to create music comes from the variety of talents we each possess. We find our drive and determination through the diversity of our different God-given abilities and mix them together to make timeless music,” band members explain.

Over the course of their musical journey, MeloDious has had the honor and privilege to participate in Oaktown Jazz Workshops and share the stage with Bay Area legends and Grammy-award winning artists Tony!Toni!Tone! and Fantastic Negrito.
